Hello everyone, welcome to another Spitfire review. Today I’ll be talking about the novel Starstruck by S.E. Anderson.
As long time readers of my website will know I’m a fan of John Green, author of Turtles All The Way Down, The Fault in Our Stars and Looking for Alaska. With his brother Hank (whose novel An Absolutely Remarkable Thing I’ll be featuring in another Spitfire Review) they formed a fan base called Nerdfighteria members of which are called Nerdfighters. I’m part of a Facebook group called Adult Nerdfighters where like minded people who are fans of John and Hank’s work can discuss the brothers, debate recent news items and talk about their lives. There are quite a few writers on this group which is how I met Sarah Anderson.
Sarah has written the Starstruck Series which follow the adventures of Sally Webber, from planet Earth. I was lucky enough to the read the first book in the trilogy, Starstruck in which Sally encounters the alien Zander (and by encounters, I mean runs over with her car) and helps him adapt to life on earth while she is simultaneously trying to get her life back on track after losing her job and dropping out of college. I don’t want to say anymore about the novel because I don’t want to ruin any of the surprises for you but trust me, you won’t regret reading it.
Starstruck is a really fun read. Sally (and Sarah I suspect) is a massive Sci-Fi fan and there are lots of references to Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars and other famous nerdy shows that makes my inner child squeal. The novel almost reads like a Doctor Who episode and feels like a Rom Com film.
This book is also a lovely springboard for the rest of the series Alienation and Traveller. If you want to read the series I suggest visiting Sarah’s website and ordering the books. She also has a neat book cover company I suggest you look into if you are in the market for that.
