2022 goals
Happy New Year!
Let us hope that 2022 is the year that things improve and return to “normal.”
I hope you enjoyed Christmas and New Year’s. During the weird week between Christmas and New Year (sources I found call this the Witching Week or the time betwix and between) I overhauled the website and, if everything has gone according to plan, things should be looking a little different. Let me know what you think.
While 2020 and 2021 were washouts I have big plans for 2022.
- Move into my own flat
During lockdown of last year I decided it was time for my to leave the family home. I’ve been saving up for a deposit and if everything goes according to plan I should be moving into a space of my own mid to late 2022. I don’t know where this flat will be yet but this is a step that I feel I need to take. Due to the stress that comes with any move (I read somewhere that moving house is the third most stressful event a human can experience, is that true?) I will be taking a break from this website during this time.
2 Complete a draft of my next novel The White Wasteland
In 2019, for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) I completed a 50,000 word draft of my next novel titled The White Wasteland. It’s a horror novel set in a location that has always fascinated me, Antartica. NaNo is always written in a hurry and due to this I’ve simply called the draft, mark zero. It doesn’t deserve a number. By the end of the year I want to reach at least draft two. Moving home will obviously take priority so if these drafts doesn’t get finished then it’ll roll on to next year.
3 Read/listen to more books
There is debate in the writing community if ‘write everyday’ is good or harmful advice. While I personally try to write everyday I think the advice to ‘read everyday’ is solid and I’ve noticed that I’ve been reading less and less. During lockdown I didn’t have the time or the mental energy to write, let alone read and I’m either not yet awake enough or too tired to focus on my book during my commutes. I’m going to endeavour to read more this year, this commitment will include audiobooks such as Big Finish or Audible. Luckily for me I was able to download ten books on Audible during their Boxing Day sale.
Let’s see what 2022 brings, shall we?
