Nanowrimo 2022
Hello everyone,
NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month, has arrived. I’ve completed NaNoWriMo several times and spoken about it at length before on this website but if you’ve forgotten what it is, allow me to refresh your memory.
- The aim of NaNoWriMo is to write 50,000 words of a new project during the month of November. This averages 1666 words a day.
- It is a matter of quantity over quality. It doesn’t matter how good your 50,000 words are, all that matters is that you write them down. You can edit them at a later date.
- You need to finish your 50,000 words before midnight on November 30th.
This year I’m completing NanoWriMo slightly differently.
Normally I’d happily dive into a new manuscript but I’m already working on a project. My second novel, The White Wasteland has just passed the 30,000 word marker. I actually started The White Wasteland for NaNoWriMo in 2019, I’m currently editing draft two and I don’t want to lose momentum.
This year I’m going to be a Nano Rebel, a writer who works on something that isn’t a new manuscript. I’m going to continue my edits. I’m not setting myself a 50,000 word limit but I will be attending the physical writing events in London and the virtual meet ups. Unlike previous years I won’t be making an ending post on this website so please follow my process on my social media. I’m most active on my Twitter account which you can find linked at the side of the page.
My eventual plan is to have The White Wasteland published and this seems like a fantastic opportunity to carve out some extra time to work on it.
Best of luck to anyone else taking part.
