Short story published with The Wise Owl Magazine

Hello everyone,

I’m delighted to say that my short story, The Signalman’s Son, has been published in this month’s version of The Wise Owl Online Magazine. A link to read my story can be found below.

My story is also available as a podcast, read by me. The recording can be found here:

I appreciate that the story is rather niche and this makes me all the more thankful it has found a home.

The story was inspired by experience I had on the Bluebell Railway in East Sussex some years ago. In case you are unaware the Bluebell Railway is a heritage line that runs steam engines for tourists and operates as piece of living history. I was standing in a dummy signal box at Sheffield Park station examining how the points and signals worked when a black steam locomotive passed by, its bodywork gleaming and glistening under the station lights. I used this moment as part of a descriptive writing exercise and the story evolved from there.

I had also noticed a lack of literature set in the modern day on heritage lines, this may be because it is a rather unique interest but I thought I would have a go at tackling this setting.

I also managed to write The Signalman’s Son in just under a week which is rather quick work for me.

I hope you enjoy.
